Is it worth doing US CMA India? Is US CMA valid in India?

It’s pretty certain to ask yourself why you would want to prepare for the US professional certification. Let’s get the facts straight.

Most multinationals & Big 4s in India are registered with SEC in the USA, which complies with organizations to US GAAP-directed audit practices. Like any other firm, an internal accounting team takes care of standard finance settings for the entire organization. CMA certification presents a qualitative advantage in handling the SEC reporting requirements for having US GAAP knowledge at the job.

Considering India is swiftly sprinting to the topline in hosting US enterprises in the Indian industrial ecosystem, presents a tremendous opportunity for US CMAs in the Indian job market. US Certified Public Accountants are hence in really high demand in the job market for FP&A roles. It’s the CMA curriculum that holds most of the significance, as it provides an entire working manual to manage the rush at financial year-ends, affixing future plans for finance and a lot more. This is the reason why US CMA is a preferred choice for recruiters at MNCs & big 4s to onboard at their accounting team.

Here are the

  1. Enroll with a CMA course provider
  2. Meet US CMA Eligibility requirements
  3. Get your preparation roadmap chalked
  4. Prepare with official CMA review materials
  5. Schedule your exam & get tested

India is a hotbed of and a key player in Business & Knowledge Process Outsourcing. A majority of the outsourced financial work in India comes from the USA and UK since NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) and LSE (London Stock Exchange) represent the world's largest financial markets. As most major brands are American entities that follow US GAAP, this creates tremendous job opportunities for US CMAs in India (in the BPO/KPO sector). Another major source of employment for CMAs is FP&A jobs directly with American companies that have branches in India, but prepare financial statements using US GAAP, at the parent level.

The average salary package for a fresher CMA with no experience ranges from INR 4.5-6 Lakhs per annum. Of course, with experience the salary increases, and depending upon the role, compensations will vary. Overall, jobs of US CMA in India pay comparably and sometimes even better than traditional Indian finance qualifications such as ICWA.
